Coffee quotes Monday

Can you feel the warmth in your hand, the fragrance coming out of the steaming cup? Can you feel the rich aroma touching your lips, your tongue, going down your entire being, like the sweetest kiss you’ve ever had?

Good morning, world! It is that time of the week again. Another start, another cup of coffee!

Writing and coffee

I’m sure that through every writer’s body there’s more coffee than blood running down their veins. Balzac couldn’t have said it better:

Were it not for coffee, one could not write,

which is to say, one could not live.

Jean Jacques Rousseau, also, put it beautifully:

Ah, that is the perfume in which I delight;

when they roast coffee near my house,
I hasten to open the door

to take in all the aroma.

I can imagine the smell of freshly roasted coffee taking hold of the mind, flooding it with ideas and dreams of worlds that don’t exist, words blooming on the white pages like snowdrops coming out of the frozen ground. Coffee has the power to awaken creativity and helps you become a better writer. All that stimulating energy brings to life the wildest ideas!

I have measured out my life

with cofee spoons.

T. S. Eliot

The powers of a man’s mind

are directly proportioned

to the quantity of coffee he drinks.

Sir James Mackintosh

Coffee is a way of stealing time

that should by rights belong to your older self.

Terry Pratchett

  1. I enjoy a good cup of coffee as I write, it feels like part of my routine now as it brings a little bit of contentment into my day. I really enjoyed reading these quotes too — so many wise words!

Ha. As I was reading this, it prompted to get my second huge mug, an attempt to lift this headache, raining, low pressure here. I have to clean the house today, so hope the coffee will do its work. I hope it will soon do its magic and get me writing. So far, it hasn’t helped enough (I’m a full time care-giver now), but without it, I’d certainly be lost! Maybe a little revision on the memoir today and soon a complete revision of my literary/fantasy novel — all with cup in hand. Thanks for your post. Love the quotes.

Hi. Thanks for stopping by. 😄 coffee almost always helps me with my mood and motivation. There are some days when nothing works, but coffee still remains my safety net. Happy writing!

  3. I liked the post and have lived the quotes to a large degree. I will have cup of coffee near me when I write, even when I know I am not going to drink any of it. It is a kind of writing placebo effect, if you will. Thanks!

Thank you! I never thought of just having a cup of coffee near me. I don’t think I would be able to resist not drinking it😆 but seems like a good idea.

Aaaah what a beautiful description of everything that goes through my mind when I take that first sip of morning coffee! Could spend whole days reexperiencing the same thing over and over again 🙂
