Rediscovering life’s beauty

After five days and more than 1500 km made, I got home with the widest smile I had for the last two years. My heart was filled with the joy of being alive.

When we left, my partner and I and another couple, my mood was rather low, with no reason. I just felt I had to get away because the walls of my house were shrinking around me. It was suffocating. I needed something to show me that life is beautiful and from the moment I sat on the motorcycle seat, everything changed. The green became greener, the sky was opening up in front of us, the road was welcoming and beckoning to us, the engine roaring.

I tell you, nothing compares to travelling on two wheels. In a car, you are confined inside it and you watch everything through a window. You are just viewer, an observer, looking at things from afar. But on a motorcycle, the frame disappears and you ride through the scenery, you are inside the landscape and you get to embrace the wind, the touch of the sun, the speed and the curves, the open road ahead of you. Your whole being soaks in the beauty and the colors of the fields. You fill up with joy and pure, wild life. You look at the birds circling around with their wings spread and you can feel like them. With the wind hitting your chest and your legs, you only have to stretch your hands and you are flying!

I also like how we salute every motorcyclist we pass by. It’s really nice and you feel like you have friends all over the place. Whenever we stopped for a coffee or to do a refill and we came across other fellow motorcyclist travelers, we talked and shared experiences, we helped each other if in need of a tool or guidance. You don’t quite see this between car drivers. This solidarity and acknowledgement of each other unites the motorcyclists community, a thing car drivers can’t relate to.

These days on the road, with all the beautiful landscapes and being in the company of people I love, reminded me that life is wonderful as it is. Maybe, we don’t need to constantly find a purpose. We just have to enjoy, to breath, to love, to taste the life around us and within us.

We are here, now, we exist, whatever the reason, so we might as well enjoy it. Try not to dwell too much in the past or get lost in the fear of the future, but live for the present moment and let time do its thing while you enjoy living.
