When nightmares feel real

You know when you have a wild dream that suddenly wakes you up at night and you feel confused, caught between being awake and still asleep? And that dream terrifies you. Your heart’s pumping hard, head spinning. You forget where you are. The fictional fear felt in the dream brakes the boundaries and invades your reality. Just terrifying. And you get out of bed, go to the bathroom, have some water and you slowly come to your senses and realize nothing’s chasing you, there’s nobody going to kill you either; you just had a bad dream, that’s all. You’re not lost in the woods, you’re home, your sweet safe home. And you’re suddenly overwhelmed by warmth. You feel safe again. And you feel happy to have your life.
Some nights can get really wild, but the break of dawn always dispels the torment of unwanted nightmares.

Yes, even if they are only dreams, they can affect our overall mood.

Nearly a nightly occurrence for me. Some weeks worse than others, but overall it’s pretty constant.

It’s tough, but we have to remember they are just dreams. We need to reassure ourselves that we are safe.
